Strombus Snail Care Guide – Live Strombus Snails For Sale Australia

Strombus Snails, commonly known as conch-type snails, are highly active sandbed grazers prized for their unique movement, algae-eating ability, and constant substrate cleaning behaviour. Unlike many snails that slowly glide, Strombus species “hop” across the sand using their muscular foot, making them one of the most entertaining clean-up crew additions in a reef aquarium.

They are excellent at consuming detritus, film algae, and leftover organics within the sand bed while helping keep substrate aerated and clean.

At Aquamarine Aquaristic we recommend Strombus Snails for reef keepers wanting an active and functional sand-cleaning invertebrate.

Diet

Herbivore / Detritivore – Strombus Snails feed on film algae, detritus, biofilm, and organic waste found within the sand bed and lower rockwork areas. Supplemental feeding with algae wafers or sinking foods may be needed in ultra-clean systems.

Avoid these pitfalls

Common mistakes to avoid

Learn from these common pitfalls when caring for marine livestock.

  • Strombus Snails rely heavily on sand beds for feeding and natural behaviour.

  • Very sterile systems may not provide enough natural detritus or algae for long-term survival.

  • Predators such as puffers and triggers can quickly kill or damage Strombus Snails.
