Common Mistakes to Avoid
please follow the path for success!
-
Blastomussa are often moved into brighter areas to “boost colour,” but they actually prefer low to moderate lighting.
Too much light can cause:
bleaching or faded colouration
retracted or tightly closed polyps
slow decline over time in extreme cases
They do best with gentle light and gradual acclimation, especially after shipping or fragging.
-
A common mistake is assuming Blasto can thrive on light alone and not offering supplemental feeding.
This can lead to:
slower growth and fewer polyp splits
reduced inflation and less vibrant appearance
long-term stagnation in lower-nutrient systems
They respond well to small, occasional feedings of fine meaty foods or coral-specific nutrition, but overfeeding should still be avoided.
-
Blastomussa are generally peaceful, but they are still LPS with slow sweeper tentacle capability.
Common issues include:
mild stinging of nearby corals at night
competition with other encrusting LPS
reduced growth space over time
They perform best with moderate spacing in low-flow sand or lower rock areas, allowing them to expand naturally without pressure from neighbours.
