Common Mistakes to Avoid

-
Galaxea is one of the most aggressive LPS corals, but it’s often placed too close to other corals when it’s still small.
At night it can extend very long sweeper tentacles that:
sting nearby SPS and LPS
damage soft corals over time
slowly clear space around itself
It needs significant spacing (often much more than people expect) to prevent long-term coral warfare.
-
While it doesn’t want blasting flow, Galaxea is often placed in stagnant areas thinking it will be safer.
This can lead to:
detritus buildup between polyps
tissue irritation and algae growth on skeleton
reduced expansion and poor health over time
It performs best in moderate, random flow that keeps debris moving without directly blasting the coral.
-
Galaxea is frequently sold as a small frag, so hobbyists underestimate how quickly it spreads.
Common mistakes include:
placing it too centrally in the aquascape
ignoring how fast it encrusts rockwork
not allowing buffer space for future expansion
Over time it can claim large areas of rock and outcompete nearby corals, so placement planning is critical early on.
