About the Snow Storm Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)

The Snow Storm Clownfish is a stunning designer variety of the classic Ocellaris Clownfish, featuring an extraordinary white body with minimal to no orange coloration and irregular black markings that create a unique snowflake-like pattern. Each fish displays a one-of-a-kind pattern, making them highly sought after by collectors and reef enthusiasts. This captive-bred variety combines the hardiness and personality of the standard Ocellaris with exceptional visual appeal.

Care Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 75 litres (20 gallons), though larger tanks are always better
  • Diet: Omnivorous - accepts high-quality marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood
  • Water Parameters: Temperature 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025
  • Feeding Frequency: 2-3 times daily in small amounts
  • Experience Level: Beginner - extremely hardy and adaptable, perfect first fish

Tank Compatibility

Peaceful and reef-safe, Snow Storm Clownfish are ideal community fish. They coexist well with most peaceful species including gobies, blennies, tangs, and other clownfish (if introduced together). May host in anemones (Bubble Tip, Magnificent, or Carpet) but don't require one. Can also adopt corals like Frogspawn, Hammer, or Torch as surrogate hosts. Completely safe with all corals and invertebrates. May show mild territorial behavior around their chosen host.

Fun Facts

  • Captive-bred, making them hardier and more environmentally sustainable than wild-caught fish
  • All clownfish are born male and can change to female if needed (protandrous hermaphrodites)
  • Form strong pair bonds - the larger fish becomes the female
  • Each Snow Storm pattern is completely unique, like a fingerprint
  • Can live 10-15+ years in captivity with proper care
  • May perform an adorable "wiggle dance" when excited or greeting their owner

Special Care Tips

  • Pairing: Can be kept singly, in pairs, or small groups if introduced simultaneously
  • Feeding: Eager eaters but avoid overfeeding. Remove uneaten food after 2-3 minutes
  • Acclimation: Hardy but still benefit from slow acclimation (30-45 minutes drip method)
  • Anemone Hosting: May take weeks or months to host an anemone, or may never host at all - this is normal
  • Breeding: Pairs may spawn in home aquariums, laying eggs on flat surfaces near their host
  • Tank Position: Typically stay in the middle to lower regions of the tank

Please be aware that variations exist within species, so your item may not precisely resemble the provided image. The size range of individual specimens is approximate and may vary. Any extraordinary fish size will be explicitly specified.
