About the Pearlscale Angelfish (Centropyge vroliki)

The Pearlscale Angelfish, also known as the Pearl-Scaled Angelfish or Half-Black Angelfish, is an elegant dwarf angelfish featuring a distinctive two-tone pattern with a pearlescent white to silver front half and black rear half, separated by a vertical orange band. This beautiful and relatively peaceful dwarf angel brings subtle elegance to reef aquariums. Their manageable size, peaceful temperament, and generally good reef compatibility make them excellent choices for community reef tanks.

Care Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 190 litres (50 gallons)
  • Diet: Omnivorous - requires varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and angelfish preparations. Benefits from nori sheets
  • Water Parameters: Temperature 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, salinity 1.023-1.025
  • Feeding Frequency: 2-3 times daily with varied foods
  • Experience Level: Intermediate - hardy and adaptable

Tank Compatibility

Peaceful to semi-aggressive and generally reef-safe. One of the more peaceful dwarf angelfish species. Compatible with most peaceful to semi-aggressive fish. Less territorial than many other Centropyge species. May show mild aggression toward other dwarf angelfish. Best kept as single dwarf angel unless tank is very large. Generally reef-safe with low risk of coral nipping, though individual behavior can vary. Most specimens are completely safe with all corals. Safe with invertebrates. Excellent community fish for reef aquariums.
